Anthropic Overtakes OpenAI in Business AI Adoption

For the first time, more American businesses are paying for Anthropic's Claude than OpenAI's ChatGPT. According to the May 2026 Ramp AI Index, Claude adoption rose to 34.4% while ChatGPT fell to 32.3%. Anthropic has quadrupled its business adoption over the past year, compared to OpenAI's 0.3% growth. However, the same report warns Anthropic's lead may be fragile. Rising costs, compute constraints, and its token-based pricing model — the very engine behind its growth — are identified as three significant threats that could erode its newly claimed market advantage.
