Akamai launches AI inference and agent sandbox services

Akamai Technologies is expanding its AI Cloud platform with two new components: Akamai Inference and Akamai Agent Sandbox. Akamai Inference is a managed service giving enterprises access to dozens of open-weight and custom AI models via OpenAI-compatible APIs, with 12 models available at launch ranging from 8 billion to 2.8 trillion parameters. Akamai Agent Sandbox provides isolated WebAssembly execution environments for autonomous AI agents, enabling granular control over compute, memory, and network access. Akamai is also adding Nvidia Blackwell Ultra GPU clusters and plans to offer Nvidia Vera Rubin GPUs in the new year.
