OpenAI Launches $4B Professional Services Unit

OpenAI has unveiled The OpenAI Deployment Company, a new subsidiary backed by $4 billion in funding to help enterprises adopt its AI models. Valued at $14 billion, the unit counts TPG, SoftBank, Bain Capital, and Brookfield among its backers, with OpenAI retaining a majority stake and promising external investors a minimum 17.5% return. The unit will deploy forward-deployed engineers directly into client offices to identify, prototype, and build production-grade AI systems. It has already acquired London-based Tomoro AI, adding roughly 150 technical professionals. The move into the multibillion-dollar consulting market follows OpenAI's recent launches of advertising and e-commerce businesses.
