Nvidia's $3.5B MediaTek Deal Fights Custom AI Chips
Nvidia is investing $3.5 billion in Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek, granting it access to NVLink Fusion technology so it can design custom AI chips that integrate seamlessly into Nvidia-powered data centers. The move comes as major cloud providers and AI companies increasingly build their own chips to reduce reliance on Nvidia GPUs.
Rather than fighting the custom silicon trend, Nvidia is embedding itself within it, ensuring its infrastructure remains the dominant standard regardless of who makes the chips. The partnership also extends to consumer AI PCs and autonomous vehicles, broadening both companies' reach across computing platforms.
