Intel Partners With Musk to Build Terafab
Intel has signed on to help design and build Elon Musk's Terafab AI chip factory in Austin, Texas, which will supply chips to SpaceX and Tesla. The facility aims to produce 1 terawatt per year of compute power to support Musk's ambitions in robotics, self-driving cars, and space-based data centers.
Musk has openly struggled to find partners capable of building a chip fabrication plant, which requires billions of dollars and years of specialized work. Intel, currently investing $20 billion in US chip manufacturing, says its fabrication expertise will help accelerate Terafab's production goals.
