Google has signed a classified deal allowing the US Department of Defense to use its AI models for any lawful government purpose, The Information reports. The agreement emerged less than a day after Google employees demanded CEO Sundar Pichai block Pentagon access over fears of harmful use. The deal includes informal restrictions against domestic mass surveillance and autonomous weapons without human oversight, but explicitly denies Google any veto power over government decisions. Google must also assist in adjusting AI safety settings at the government's request.
