Google Cloud Launches Agent Compute Engine for AI Agents
Google Cloud introduced Agent Compute Engine, an infrastructure service designed to host AI agents in secure, lightweight sandboxes called microVMs. These combine container efficiency with virtualization-level security, using Titan chips to verify firmware integrity and CPU-level mitigations against side-channel attacks. Idle sandboxes are automatically shut down to reduce hardware costs and reactivated on demand. Agent credentials are stored outside sandboxes to prevent theft. Google also plans updates to Agent Gateway, adding model routing and token management for controlling inference costs. Both services will roll out in the coming months.
