Apple limits dating and AI companion apps to adults

Apple is updating App Store policies to require all apps offering dating, romantic relationship features, or AI companions with sexual or romantic content to carry an 18+ age rating. Starting November 16, developers must add new content descriptors reflecting their app's features. The change affects major AI companion platforms like Character.AI and Replika, which are often used by younger audiences. Apps that share users' real-world locations with others must also disclose this. The policy builds on Apple's broader push for age assurance technology and expanded parental controls.
