Anthropic Acquires Biotech Startup for $400M
Anthropic has acquired Coefficient Bio, a stealth New York biotech AI startup, in a stock deal valued at over $400 million. The small team of fewer than 10 people, mostly former Genentech computational biology researchers, will join Anthropic's Healthcare Life Sciences division. Coefficient Bio, founded roughly eight months ago by former Genentech Prescient Design researchers Samuel Stanton and Nathan Frey, had built a platform enabling AI to draft drug R&D plans, manage clinical regulatory strategies, and discover drug candidates. The deal marks a significant escalation in Anthropic's life sciences ambitions beyond its existing Claude model integrations.
