AMD buys World Labs for $8.2 billion
AMD announced plans to acquire World Labs for $8.2 billion in stock, seven months after backing a $1 billion funding round for the startup at a $5 billion valuation. World Labs, founded in 2024 by AI researcher Fei-Fei Li, develops spatial intelligence models that generate interactive 3D environments used in robot training. Its newest model, Atlas, can create virtual replicas of factories or warehouses from photos. Fei-Fei Li will become AMD's executive vice president and chief scientist after the deal closes, expected by year's end.
