Wit Studio has apologized after fans discovered AI-generated background art in the opening sequence of Ascendance of a Bookworm season four. The studio confirmed the violation following an internal investigation, promised to redraw the affected scenes, and blamed shortcomings in its production management systems. This marks the second time Wit Studio has faced backlash over AI use, following the 2023 Netflix short Dog and Boy, which openly credited AI in its production. Critics argue the repeated incidents are especially damaging given the studio's reputation and its previously stated commitment to fair treatment of anime workers.
