Nikon has disqualified the original first-place winner of its Small World in Motion competition after determining the entry violated rules on generative AI. The winning video, submitted by Dr. Ning Xu, purported to show cilia moving in the airway of a child with the respiratory condition PCD. Nikon announced it was reviewing the video following online skepticism about its authenticity, and last week confirmed it did not comply with the competition's generative AI rules.
