UK adults are increasingly passive on social media, with active posters dropping from 61% to 49% since 2024, as fears over digital footprints drive a shift toward ephemeral content. Meanwhile, 54% now use generative AI tools, with one in eight turning to them for emotional support and companionship. Ofcom's 2026 report also reveals growing distrust of traditional broadcasters, with YouTube replacing TV for many men, and a rise in online side hustles. Despite high self-reported digital confidence, scam-detection skills have declined, and only 59% feel online benefits outweigh risks, down from 72% last year.
