Uber Ditches Oracle for Amazon's AI Chips
Uber is expanding its AWS cloud contract to run more ride-sharing features on Amazon's in-house chips, including Graviton CPUs and a new trial of the Trainium3 AI chip. The move is a notable win for Amazon over cloud rivals Google and Oracle, with whom Uber signed major multi-year deals in 2023.
The shift comes amid broader Silicon Valley upheaval, including SoftBank's acquisition of ARM chip maker Ampere, in which Oracle held a stake worth $2.7 billion. Uber joins Anthropic, OpenAI, and Apple in expanding AWS usage, as Amazon CEO Andy Jassy confirmed Trainium is already a multibillion-dollar business.
