Smart glasses threaten to revolutionize exam cheating
England's exams watchdog Ofqual is warning that smart glasses, hidden earpieces, and AI tools represent a new frontier in exam cheating. Chief regulator Sir Ian Bauckham says regulators must move quickly as wearable technology becomes cheaper and harder to detect. Mobile phones already account for 44.3 percent of student malpractice cases.
Beyond the exam hall, Ofqual is also grappling with AI-generated coursework that is increasingly difficult to distinguish from genuine student work. Possible responses include stricter sourcing requirements, greater teacher verification, or removing coursework entirely from some qualifications.
