Runway CEO: Make 50 Films, Not One Blockbuster
Runway CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela says Hollywood should use AI to produce 50 films for the price of one $100 million blockbuster, arguing studios improve their odds of a hit through volume. He claims AI is already cutting costs across pre-production, scripting, visual effects, and execution, with studios including Amazon and Sony already adopting the technology.
Valenzuela dismissed early skepticism as fear-based and compared AI-driven film production to the book publishing model, where greater output benefits culture overall. Critics, however, challenge the assumption that scaling content with AI automatically produces great art.
