Queensland to ban AI deepfake creation without consent
Queensland will outlaw the creation of sexually explicit AI deepfake images of real people without their consent, Attorney General Deb Frecklington announced Sunday. Offenders could face up to three years in prison under the proposed legislation, which closes an existing loophole that only prohibits distribution of such material. The government plans to consult experts across education, legal, sexual violence and online safety sectors from April, with the legislative process set to begin midyear. Labor's opposition welcomed the move, saying it would review the legislation in a calm and methodical way.
