Queensland to ban AI deepfake creation without consent
Queensland will outlaw the creation of sexually explicit AI deepfake images of real people without their consent, closing a legal loophole that currently only prohibits distribution. Attorney General Deb Frecklington announced the legislation on Sunday, with offenders facing up to three years in prison.
The government plans to consult experts across education, legal, sexual violence and online safety sectors from April, with the legislative process set to begin midyear. Labor's shadow minister Grace Grace welcomed the move, saying the opposition would review it carefully to ensure laws keep pace with technology.
