OpenAI Unveils Blueprint to Combat AI Child Exploitation
OpenAI has released a Child Safety Blueprint aimed at improving detection, reporting, and investigation of AI-enabled child sexual exploitation. Developed with the NCMEC and Attorney General Alliance, the plan focuses on updating legislation, refining law enforcement reporting, and embedding preventative safeguards into AI systems.
The move comes as AI-generated child sexual abuse material surged, with over 8,000 reports filed in the first half of 2025 alone. OpenAI also faces lawsuits alleging its GPT-4o chatbot contributed to user deaths by suicide, adding pressure on the company to demonstrate stronger safety commitments.
