OpenAI Releases Open-Source On-Device Privacy Tool

OpenAI has launched Privacy Filter, an open-source model that detects and redacts personally identifiable information before data reaches cloud servers. The 1.5-billion-parameter tool runs on a standard laptop or web browser and is available on Hugging Face under an Apache 2.0 license. The release marks a return to OpenAI's open-source roots after years of prioritizing proprietary models through ChatGPT and its API.
