OpenAI Loses Key Leaders Behind Sora, Science Push
OpenAI is losing two prominent figures as it refocuses on enterprise AI. Kevin Weil, who led OpenAI for Science, and Bill Peebles, the researcher behind AI video tool Sora, both announced departures Friday. The company is also losing enterprise CTO Srinivas Narayanan. The exits follow OpenAI's decision to cut so-called side quests, including Sora, which was reportedly burning $1 million per day in compute costs before being shut down last month. OpenAI for Science, which aimed to accelerate scientific discovery, will be absorbed into other research teams.
