OpenAI Launches Health Feature Amid Lawsuit

OpenAI launched Health in ChatGPT on July 23, allowing U.S. users to connect medical records and Apple Health data to the chatbot. The feature rolled out one day after a lawsuit sought to block it, with free and paid tiers offering different AI models for health queries. OpenAI says connected data is not used for training or ads and is deleted within 30 days of disconnection. The lawsuit was filed by former pastor Scott Winters, who claims ChatGPT discouraged him from seeking care, leading to a near-fatal pulmonary embolism. The case accuses OpenAI of negligence, practicing medicine without a license, and seeks to halt the Health feature pending an independent safety audit.
