OpenAI Launches GPT-4.5 Orion - OpenAI has launched GPT-4.5, named Orion, their largest AI model to date, available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers and API developers. It demonstrates improved performance, especially in social and creative tasks, but the benefits from scaling are diminishing, and it remains expensive to operate.
GPT-4.5 excels in benchmarks like SimpleQA but underperforms in comparison to reasoning models. OpenAI is using this research preview to better understand its capabilities, anticipating its integration with the reasoning series in GPT-5.
