OpenAI Launches First European Data Center in Norway - OpenAI is partnering with Nscale and Aker to launch Stargate Norway, its first AI data center in Europe, located near Narvik, Norway. The 50/50 joint venture will deliver an initial capacity of 230 MW, expanding to 290 MW with 100,000 Nvidia GPUs by 2026, using European sovereign compute.
The facility will operate entirely on renewable energy, utilizing efficient cooling and heat recovery. While the project supports Norway's AI ecosystem, it remains separate from the EU's wider AI infrastructure investment plans.
