OpenAI Introduces European Data Residency - OpenAI has launched data residency in Europe, allowing compliance with local data sovereignty laws. Starting Thursday, European organizations using OpenAI's API can process data locally with zero data retention, and new ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu customers can store data at rest in the region. However, existing projects cannot be updated to include this feature.
This move addresses regulatory pressures and privacy concerns as European regulators have scrutinized OpenAI's data handling. The initiative aims to strengthen security, privacy, and compliance across Europe while facilitating AI adoption.
