OpenAI taps Google Cloud to access much-needed GPUs for ChatGPT

July 16, 2025: OpenAI Expands Cloud Partnerships Beyond Microsoft - OpenAI has partnered with Google Cloud to access more GPU resources for ChatGPT, as its demand surpasses Microsoft's Azure capacity. Despite competition between the two, Google Cloud joins Microsoft, Oracle, and CoreWeave as OpenAI's AI hardware suppliers. OpenAI seeks to diversify its cloud infrastructure to meet growing needs and previously penned a $12 billion deal with CoreWeave.

The shift follows Microsoft's move to relinquish exclusive cloud provider status while maintaining exclusive rights to OpenAI's APIs for developers using Azure. OpenAI plans to utilize Google Cloud across several global locations.
