OpenAI Cancels o3 for Unified GPT-5 Launch - OpenAI has decided to discontinue its o3 model to focus on developing a unified AI model, GPT-5. This new model will integrate key technologies into ChatGPT and its API, with CEO Sam Altman aiming to simplify offerings and remove choices between models. GPT-5 will feature varying intelligence levels based on user subscription tiers.
Before launching GPT-5, OpenAI plans to release GPT-4.5, also known as Orion, which will be its last non-reasoning model. This shift occurs as competition intensifies with DeepSeeks' R1 model. Altman recognizes the necessity for rapid advancements to sustain OpenAI's leadership in the AI industry.
