Musk Testifies About Falling Out With Larry Page
At his OpenAI trial, Elon Musk revealed that a falling-out with Google's Larry Page over AI safety was a key motivation for co-founding OpenAI. Musk testified that Page dismissed concerns about AI wiping out humanity as acceptable, calling Musk a speciest for being pro-human.
The dispute ended a close friendship — Page once said he'd rather give his money to Musk than to charity. The rift deepened when Musk recruited Google AI star Ilya Sutskever for OpenAI in 2015, prompting Page to cut off contact entirely. Musk has told the story before, but Tuesday marked the first time under oath.
