Microsoft claims its Copilot AI rarely reproduces full sentences from news articles or books, let alone substantial portions that could replace the originals. The company made these assertions in new legal filings as it defends against copyright lawsuits from publishers including The New York Times and various book authors. As part of the lawsuit's discovery process, Microsoft submitted 8.2 million Copilot interactions as evidence to support its position that the chatbot does not meaningfully reproduce protected content.
