Microsoft Open-Sources AI Agent Governance Toolkit
Microsoft has released the Agent Governance Toolkit, a free, open-source seven-package system designed to govern autonomous AI agents across Python, TypeScript, Rust, Go, and .NET. The toolkit addresses a critical gap between AI agent autonomy and governance infrastructure, integrating with popular frameworks like LangChain, CrewAI, and OpenAI Agents SDK without requiring rewrites.
The toolkit includes policy enforcement, cryptographic identity, execution controls, compliance automation, and reinforcement learning governance. It maps to regulatory frameworks including the EU AI Act, HIPAA, and SOC2, covers all ten OWASP agentic AI risk categories, and ships with over 9,500 tests. Microsoft plans to transition the project to a foundation for community governance.
