Microsoft Launches AI Models to Rival OpenAI, Google

Microsoft unveiled three in-house AI models — MAI-Transcribe-1, MAI-Voice-1, and MAI-Image-2 — covering speech transcription, voice generation, and image creation. Available immediately via Microsoft Foundry and a new MAI Playground, the launch signals the tech giant's push toward AI self-sufficiency. The models mark the first output from Microsoft's superintelligence team, formed just six months ago under Mustafa Suleyman. The move positions Microsoft as a direct competitor to OpenAI and Google in frontier AI model development, not merely distribution.
