Metas Bold AI Data Center Expansion - Meta is building a 5GW AI data center, Hyperion, in Louisiana to boost AI capabilities and compete with AI leaders like OpenAI and Google. Hyperion, set to expand from a two GW project, will cover most of Manhattan. Additionally, a separate 1GW facility, Prometheus, is planned for Ohio in 2026.
These initiatives enhance Meta's AI competitiveness but may strain local resources, similar to expansions by companies like CoreWeave. Federal support from the Trump administration aims to bolster AI infrastructure, with data centers projected to use 20% of U.S. energy by 2030.
