Meta refuses to sign EU’s AI code of practice

July 18, 2025: Meta Snubs EUs AI Code of Practice - Meta has refused to sign the European Union's AI code of practice weeks before the AI Act's rules take effect. Joel Kaplan, Meta's global affairs officer, criticized the EU's approach as overreaching, warning it could impede AI development and European business growth.

The voluntary framework seeks to regulate AI by requiring documentation updates, banning training on pirated content, and respecting content owners' requests. As the EU continues with its regulatory timeline, providers must comply with the new AI rules by August 2, 2027.
