Meta Appoints Zhao as AI Superintelligence Chief - Meta appointed Shengjia Zhao, a former OpenAI researcher, as Chief Scientist of its new AI unit, Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), led by Alexandr Wang. Zhao, known for his contributions to AI models such as ChatGPT and GPT-4, will direct MSL's research focus on AI reasoning models.
Meta has aggressively recruited top talent from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and others, offering lucrative packages. The MSL team will access Meta's 1-gigawatt Prometheus cloud cluster in 2026, positioning itself as a competitor to AI giants like OpenAI and Google.
