The Malaysian Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry requires a 30-day notification before exporting these chips, enforcing compliance with the STA 2010 law. Reports of elaborate smuggling tactics have prompted this action.
The U.S. is considering further restrictions to prevent AI chips from reaching China, with new U.S. Department of Commerce regulations anticipated. The Trump administration is also contemplating heightened controls to prevent indirect chip access via Malaysia and Thailand.
