Jeff Dean Leaves Google to Launch AI Startup

Jeff Dean, Google's 30th employee and one of its most influential executives, is leaving the company after 26 years to co-found Discovery Loop, an AI startup focused on accelerating scientific research. He is joined by fellow Google veterans Sanjay Ghemawat, Quoc Le, and Oriol Vinyals. Discovery Loop aims to use AI to automate and run thousands of experiments simultaneously, dramatically speeding up the scientific process. The startup has secured funding from Radical Ventures, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Lightspeed, and Doerr Capital, with Google's parent company Alphabet also participating.
