Intel AI Compression Slashes Game Texture VRAM 18X
Intel's Texture Set Neural Compression uses AI to reduce game texture memory and storage by up to 18 times with only a 7% visual quality loss. Shown at GDC, it works at install time, during loading, or at runtime to cut VRAM usage and patch sizes.
Launching later this year as a standalone SDK, it supports Intel GPUs with XMX hardware but includes a fallback path for non-Intel GPUs and CPUs. The technology handles standard BC1-compressed textures and offers two compression modes, with the more aggressive option delivering the maximum 18X reduction.
