Human Creators Want AI-Free Labels, Can't Agree
As AI-generated content floods the internet, human creators are pushing for labels to authenticate their work. Instagram's Adam Mosseri and others argue it may be more practical to certify real media than flag fake media, but existing standards like C2PA have largely failed.
At least 12 competing AI-free label systems now exist, ranging from trust-based badges anyone can download to labor-intensive human audits of creative processes. The core challenges remain unsolved: verification is difficult, AI detection tools are unreliable, and there is no consensus on what truly counts as human-made work.
