Google’s new SynthID Detector can help spot AI slop

May 20, 2025: Googles SynthID Detects AI-Created Content - Google introduced SynthID Detector, a tool unveiled at Google I/O 2025 to verify whether images, videos, audio, or text are generated by AI using Google's SynthID watermarking. This launch responds to the rise in AI-generated media, including deepfakes. However, SynthID Detector is limited to Google's own tools and can be bypassed, especially for text.

Google claims over 10 billion media items have been watermarked with SynthID since 2023, emphasizing its widespread usage.
