Google rolls out Project Mariner, its web-browsing AI agent

May 20, 2025: Google Unveils Multitasking AI Web Agent - Google unveiled Project Mariner, an AI web-browsing agent capable of handling up to 10 tasks simultaneously, for U.S. subscribers of the $249.99-per-month AI Ultra plan. This tool lets users perform online tasks without visiting third-party websites. Google plans to integrate Mariner into its Gemini API and Vertex AI for developers, aiming to transform user interactions. However, it faces competition from OpenAI, Amazon, and Anthropic.

Mariner can now operate from the cloud, enhancing its utility. Future integrations are planned, including AI Mode for Google Search and a new Agent Mode. These developments aim to boost the agent's functionality and expand its influence in the market.
