Google Rebuilds Data Cloud for AI Agents
Google unveiled its Agentic Data Cloud at Cloud Next, redesigning enterprise data architecture for autonomous AI agents rather than human-driven queries. The system features automated semantic metadata curation, cross-cloud lakehouse capabilities letting BigQuery access AWS data without egress fees, and a Data Agent Kit integrating with tools like Claude Code and Gemini CLI.
The shift reflects a broader industry reckoning: traditional data stacks built for scheduled human queries are ill-suited for AI agents operating around the clock. Google Cloud VP Andi Gutmans framed it plainly: the move is from human scale to agent scale.
