Google rebuilds Cloud databases for AI agent era

Google Cloud is transforming its databases from passive storage systems into intelligent context hubs for agentic AI, a shift highlighted at Google Cloud Next 2026. VP of Engineering Sailesh Krishnamurthy emphasized that AI models lack real value without enterprise data context, driving the need for unified graph, vector, and relational operations in a single system. Google also unveiled Spanner Omni, a downloadable version of its distributed database for on-premises and multi-cloud use. Gemini-powered migration agents now accelerate full application stack migrations, compressing timelines that previously required months of manual work.
