Google Invests $75M in A24 for AI Filmmaking
Google is investing $75 million in independent film studio A24 to explore AI-powered filmmaking tools, marking the tech giant's first investment in a film studio. The partnership will give A24 access to Google's DeepMind lab, with a focus on building new production workflows rather than AI-generated films.
The deal has drawn sharp criticism from filmmakers, including A24 director Kane Parsons, who has called AI culturally harmful. Actor-director Justine Bateman warned A24 directors their films could be altered without consent, citing Google's previous controversial AI modifications to The Wizard of Oz.
