Google AI cuts Covered California wait times to seconds

Covered California, the largest U.S. state-based health insurance marketplace serving 16 million residents, has partnered with Deloitte and Google to deploy AI-powered document processing. The system reduced eligibility verification time from 72 hours to under five seconds, achieving a 54% automation rate and saving an estimated 24,000 staff hours annually. The solution, built on Google's Document AI platform, processes over 50,000 documents monthly across 80-plus document types. Deloitte has since replicated the model for Maryland's childcare subsidy and Nevada's timesheet verification programs, compressing deployment timelines from months to weeks.
