German data protection official wants Apple, Google to remove DeepSeek from the country’s app stores

June 27, 2025: Germany Pushes Apple, Google to Remove DeepSeek - Berlin's data protection commissioner, Meike Kamp, has urged Apple and Google to remove the Chinese AI app DeepSeek from German app stores, citing illegal data transfers to China. Kamp claims DeepSeek failed to show compliance with EU data protection laws, raising concerns about potential access by Chinese authorities.

Despite being asked to comply or leave, DeepSeek remains non-compliant, and Italy has already banned the app for similar reasons. Both tech giants have not responded to the request for its removal.
