DeepSeek Updates R1 AI Model on Hugging Face - Chinese startup DeepSeek has updated its R1 reasoning AI model and released it on Hugging Face with a permissive MIT license. The model, although a minor upgrade, has 685 billion parameters, making it unsuitable for consumer-grade hardware without modifications.
The initial R1 model gained attention earlier this year by challenging OpenAI's capabilities but also raised concerns among some U.S. regulators about potential national security risks.
