Sensitive DeepSeek database exposed to the public, cybersecurity firm Wiz reveals

January 30, 2025: DeepSeek Database Exposed, Sparks Security Concerns - Cybersecurity firm Wiz discovered that Chinese AI startup DeepSeek left a sensitive database unsecured, exposing millions of chat records, user queries, and backend data. This breach potentially allowed unauthorized full control over DeepSeek's environment. DeepSeek rose in popularity with its AI model, DeepSeek-R1, which rivals top US models.

Despite quickly addressing the security flaw, concerns about data privacy have grown. This resulted in DeepSeek's chatbots being removed from Italy's App Store and blocked access by many companies wary of data leaks to China.
