Cognition Acquires Windsurf Amidst AI Coding Frenzy - Cognition, maker of AI coding agent Devin, has purchased Windsurf following its CEO and key staff joining Google in a $2.4 billion agreement. OpenAI missed retaining Windsurf with its $3 billion offer, enabling Cognition to secure Windsurf's IP, product, and remaining team.
Windsurf's IDE boasts significant revenue and a large user base, with its team now set to improve Devin. Cognition promises that all Windsurf employees will financially benefit from the acquisition.
