CNN Sues Perplexity Over AI Copyright Theft
CNN has filed a lawsuit against Perplexity AI in the Southern District of New York, alleging the company rewrote its journalism using AI without permission, infringing copyrights and trademarks. CNN called it stealing from content creators, while Perplexity countered that facts cannot be copyrighted.
The two companies had previously negotiated a licensing deal in 2025, but it collapsed. CNN then demanded Perplexity stop using its content, a warning the AI firm allegedly ignored. CNN joins the New York Times and other publishers in suing AI companies over copyright violations.
