AWS unveils next-gen Trainium3 custom AI chips and cloud Trainium2 instances

December 3, 2024: AWS Launches Trainium3 Chips and Trn2 UltraServers - AWS unveiled Trainium3 chips and Trainium2-powered Trn2 instances at AWS re:Invent, boosting AI capabilities. Trainium3, built on a three-nanometer process, offers double the performance and 40% greater efficiency compared to Trainium2. New Trn2 UltraServers, equipped with 64 Trainium2 chips, support scalable AI training and inference, reaching up to 83.2 petaflops.

Amazon collaborated with Anthropic to create Project Ranier, utilizing a large cluster of UltraServers. Next-generation Trainium3-based instances, anticipated in 2025, are projected to deliver four times the current performance, underscoring AWS’s ongoing commitment to AI advancements.
